Edelbrock fast idle question
Edelbrock fast idle question
Is there anyway to make my Edelbrock carb, after warming up to kick down automatically like my Q-Jet did? I belive the Q-jet was setup originally that it would automatically go from 1500 RPM down to 750RPM when the engine is fully warm.

the q-jet should have needed you to kick it down, to get it to release the fast idle cam.... However once you started driving it, that would do it naturally.

Fast idle is via a cam, engaged by the choke thermostat, that holds the throttle slightly more open than the normal idle speed screw does. Just as you have to open the throttle to allow the choke to close before you start the car, you have to open the throttle to allow the fast idle cam to disengage as the choke thermostat opens.
Speaking of the q-jet. I'm not familiar with the details of the Performer fast idle cam (may use the same idle adjustment screw, for all I know). But, the principle will be the same regardless.
