if it's all you have then it will be fine. i ran a 750 VS on mine for quite some time. if it's mech. secondaries, then you can not floor it until very high up the RPM range, but that should be it.

I have no doubts that it will run,, just that half throttle will be full throttle..lol
A 350 with a nice cam might be in order...

how about if I slap a set of vortec heads on it and a .450 lift cam I also would like to hit it with a 100 shot!

it'll be fine as a temporary thing, won't run perfectly, but if that's all you have then don't expect good fuel economy. otherwise trade for a 650 or 600 carb or even a 750 vacuum secondary for a DD.

hmmm...my 600 vs got worse fuel economy than my properly tuned 750 dp...hmmm...
I have a 750 holley, edelbrock performer manifold on my stock 305- runs ok, I have had it on since last summer. It is a vacuum secondary, I would of put a 600 on but all that I had was the 750 since I got it for a good deal.

though i'd think that the heads and cam in that lo3 will need replacing as well if you want to go fast.

not if you want to go fast...look at all the really fast cars that are carbed...they have some variation of a holley sitting ontop.

The Edelbrock design sucks for tuneability. You can get them to make good power, good mileage, and clean emissions, but they will never run like a Quadrajet, Holley, or Demon.
My personal favorite is the Q-Jet. A properly setup Q-Jet is nearly impossible to beat. Its tiny little primaries give sharp around town performance with awesome fuel mileage, then the HUGE secondaries kick in and it goes. Some big block versions flow 800+ CFM but, due to the air valves on the secondaries will work on a 231 V6 or a 454 BB without any problems (once you optimize the primary jets/metering rods, and the secondary rods/hanger).

get it to the track and get some times.
there are a few of us doing a 305 shootout, interested? basically just here on the boards. myself, and KWIK84 are both trying to see who will get to the 12's first n/a. only limits are no power adder and nothing over 315 cubes with nothing larger than a 3.795" bore (.060 over 305)

my car is going to be slow I know. Stock lo3 with performer intake ,1405, excell HEI and headman long tubes. sounds decent for what it is though. What can I do to make it fast for cheap? I know Heads and cam are proly all I need.

yes, put some 416 heads on yours with a fresh valve job and a backcut on the valves. that will help tremendously on yours. i had the same on mine back when it ran low 13's. i'm planning to go to the 113 aluminum heads for my personal head swap. got a fresh valve job, backcut on the valves, mild bowl blending and polished combustion chambers. that with my big cam...i should be well into the 12's.

those particular 416's have already been sold and are on my buddies go-fast(er...getting there) 305.
i have another set, but they are kinda my spares...still completely stock though. i'd think that you could find them in a salvage yard relatively easily. they came on all lg4 and l69 camaros, firbirds, and montecarlos (maybe malibu, elcaminos, etc. as well?) as well as 86' lb9's. the 081's are found on all 87'up lb9's and the 601's are also good flowing 305 heads that could be found on late 70's early 80's 305's in trucks and van's...and maybe caprice's?

they need porting, but they are good heads if you plan to stick with the 305. if your going to put money into a set of heads, get some 113 heads and put on a shim head gasket (something with a .015" compressed thickness) to bump compression...though the 113's need some porting done as well. but you can get them for about the same price as the world heads(if not cheaper) and get the weight savings from the aluminum...and they flow better...

they are *decent* but again, need port work. if your going to go aftermarket, trickflow has a 58cc head with a 1.94/1.5 valve combo that i'd love to see somebody put on a 305. they have something like a 165 or 175cc intake runner.
