pinging, whats going on?

i just put my carbed 350 in my car. and lately i have been noticing some pinging. at first i thought it was octane related, so i put 93 in it. it still did it, but not as bad. then it stopped. now its doing it again. i havent quite tuned the carb perfectly, nor the timing. also what i though of is i live in texas. the weather changes quite drastically, and im thinking that it is affecting it due to the hot weather, then the cool weather. it does it really bad when its hot.

so do i need to tune my carb, and my timing? my approximate compression ratio is 9 to 1 (76cc head with a flattop 4 valve relief piston).
any suggestions are helpful!
