Thinking about converting to TPI from cc quad?

I have a 1986 computered controlled quad stock 305 with stock exhaust, except for the flowmaster in rear, 5 speed transmission, 323 gears. The smog equipment was "working?" but had the pipe from the cat to the manifold missing BUT the smog pump locked up a few weeks ago so I had to remove the belt, so now the smog system is DEFINITELY not working. I have another 305 with a 700R4 parts car that I removed the TPI setup including the computer, the harness from the computer to the engine compartment, fuel lines, and complete fuel tank. Between now and next summer I have in mind to pull the engine and rebuild it but I want to tweek it to give it a little more gitty up. I've thought about changing it to TPI, possibly headers and new exhaust system, eliminating all the smog crap to clean up under the hood since it's inoperable, and just basically juice it up a bit. In the long run will it be worth the effort? would I have to change the heads from the TPI car to mine? or what else could I do to juice it up? With the current cc quad setup it has 4 codes, (code 13)-02 sensor?, (code 21)- throttle position sensor?, (code 24)- VSS is this the yellow thing on back of gauges?, (code 32)-??. It may have another one since the smog pump locked up I haven't checked it lately. once I got the 21 code gone by pluging the sensor back up (I had just got the car) but it's back. I need to do something about these until and if I change it over. It runs pretty good or at least as good as it ever has since getting it last spring, but it does run a little rich , the exhaust tips have that black **** in them, and does drink a little gas but not real bad but could be better. Any suggestions or cures?

pulling the smog pump wont throw a code
and code 32 is EGR failure
and the VSS is located on the Transmission whit that unit falied
your EGR will not work proprely nither will cruise control , or your shift light

He has a Camaro, not a Firebird. His VSS is the yellow thing behind the instrument cluster, not on the transmission.

Like the other person said my vss is on back of the gauge cluster. Speedo is cable driven. Now my cruise control does not work and the shift light never worked until a few weeks ago I took it to the drag strip just to see what it would do now and as I was going down the track I noticed a red light momentarily. Then the next pass I noticed it again and realized it was the shift light working, probably because I was taching it up more than usual. The shift light also will come on continuously when you are checking the engine codes. The tach is also incorrect as usual (I've read how to correct it but can't find the right capacitor locally). I have the 140 MPH gauge cluster (with vss on back) from the other car I may try to see if it changes anything. I guess I got nothing to loose but the time doing it.
