Need Vacuum Canister Schematics Please

Does anyone have a diagram on routing a default vacuum canister for a crate carboretor engine? My entire car has been stripped and we are installing a create engine with a rough cam, so I need a vacuum canister to keep my power brakes. I also know the canister assists with the air in the gass tank. Or if anyone could breifly explain what hooks up to the canister. thanks!

A vacuum can to store vacuum for power brake operation and an emissions canister are two completely different things. Which one are you trying to hookup, and what was the original engine setup in the car?

Just trying to have my power brakes, does that mean the vacuum line from the brake booster will go to the canister and not the carburetor? If you have a routing diagram or somethin that will be cool. So I can just plug up the line going to the gas tank right, since thats all emmisions. . .

The stock power booster has a fairly large reservoir. As long as the check valve is intact, you should get two fully assisted brake applications. The third application could be a little less assisted, and the fourth could be completely manual. You can add more reservoir, but that only prolongs the inevitable. The real answer may be a vacuum pump, or a hydraulic assist unit operating from the power steering pump.

ok ,. . . . completely lost here. Define a fully assisted brake application. Is that the setup of a vacuum canister? Go back to vacuum 101 for dummies here.

A vacuum canister will hold engine vacuum even if the engie is shut off. That's exactly what the power brake booster does, so long as the check valve is working properly. All an add-on canister does is to add volume to the "reserve" of vacuum. A typical Morraine brake booster needs to have 12" Hg for a power assisted stop. If the engine has produced 12" Hg or more at any time since the last stop, the vacuum reservoir built into the booster should be holding that. If there are multiple stops/braking events between times when the engien makes 12" Hg, there may be little or no noticable power assist.

If the cam/valve timing/idle combination doesn't produce enough vacuum in the stock 9" booster to assist brakes sufficiently, you may need a vacuum PUMP, not a canister.
