ok i have a 600 cfm Holley carb on a Weiland intake and im having problems of punching the gas at a stand still and it chugging out and popping. My dad is a mechanic and he says he dosent know what is going on with it. I think it is too much carb for the motor cause i dont know its history or what cam it has so im open to suggestions cause thats the only thing i can think of.

 

Its not to much carb for your motor. It sounds like it is jeted to high and running rich.

 

we have tryed that too, but if we lean it out it runs worse at high rpms, sorry forgot to put that in the question, and we also checked the accelerator pump and its fine

 

wrong pump shot size probably. change squirters, or perhaps it needs more stall, more gear, etc etc. What's the timing set? floats? fuel pressure? check any of that?

 

have you checked your syntriffical advancded on dist.does car do allright when taken off normal/if it does check dist.your advanced might not be opening fast enough

 

i have checked all of that i forgot the setting i will get that on soon but i remember that it was all fine, but i havent checked gears in the rearend yet and i have to change them out cause going 55 the rpms rev high so im gonna put a more streetable rearend and put a 700r4 overdrive in it cause i have a 350 3 speed in now in it but idk, and the distributor is set even and regular take off is fine but as soon as you put it to the floor it chugges and popps gas out of the carb like a backfire

 

gears should not have anything to do with backfiring are bogging down is it a rebuild motor gears sound like they are steap

 

9 times out of 10 a carb problem is really an ignition problem. a 600 cfm holley would be a vacuum secondary, so did you try changing out the secondary springs at all?

 

All i know is the guy that had it before me took the v-6 out and put a rebiult motor in it but i dont know what he did to the motor

 

he said it had a mild cam

 

I have messed with the springs and it didnt help and i have checked all vacum lines and fittings and there arent any holes in them
