750 6140 Carb for a 305
hey ive never pickedo ut a carb before and have some questions, i went to holley and used thier calculator it says at most i need 500cc carb, well i have someone that wants to give me a 750 cc 6140 for like 75 it in perfect condition. can i use such a monster carb on my little motor, even when i put in a 350 motor at 6000rpm holley still didnt recomend 750 cc. so it this way over kill would it even work. im looking for a cheap way to make my tbi car work. im on a low budget thing.

To be honest with you, I've never heard of a Holley 6140. 4160, perhaps?
Depending upon exactly what type this 750 Holley is, it may be okay on the 305 and fine on a 350. The Holley calculator tells you how much carb you "need", not how much carb you can use. There's a chart on their site about mechanical secondaries that tells you how big of a carb is too big. Basically, you lose some low-end throttle response when the carb is too big for the engine, but that's about it.
