Q jet Carb numbers

hi, everyone has been a great help to me and i appreciate the input with another question or two.....

What do the numbers on the carb indicate? I have a QJet on an 84TA 305HO with these on the driver side: 17084208 and 3573HYB under it. There is also a black and white sticker on the side with 4208 on it.

Also, i checked my vaccum with a gauge closest to the carb in fron and it read about 15 conservatively. My engine has 46K on it and it misses at idle sometimes resulting in a stall. any ideas to point me in the right direction? my idle is set at about 800rpm after increasing it thinking it would cure the stalling problem....but no uh uh, didnt work

thanks

ok maybe i have a third question - i want to replace my stock intake anyway and use a dual plane with the stock carb, but is that wise without correcting the engine miss first? i dont want to compound any problems by digging in too soon

thanks again

17084208 is the carb ID #, used whenever you need to buy something for it (kit, choke, etc.). The others are date & facility codes.

Most "carburetor" problems are caused by the ignition system. How's your state of tune? New plugs, wires, cap, rotor, coil, module? Is the 46k miles original, or since a rebuild? Regardless, if the coil/module are factory or the other parts haven't been replaced recently, that's probably where your miss/stall problem lies. It isn't very likely it's a carb issue, although a vacuum leak could cause those things, but wouldn't likely be intermittent.

Any particular reason you want to replace your intake? Without other upgrades, it isn't going to make a big (if any) difference.

Swapping the stock intake with a Edelbrock Performer EPS won't make much of a difference?
What other upgrades should be done first?

yep, had the car tuned a month ago with new plugs, wires, cap, rotor, and new O2 senser. Miles are original. There is a little seepage of oil that i havent detemined origin yet, but is likely a valve cover gasket from age (doesnt drip, but there is small puddle on the intake that has not increased any).

You're thinking the ignition coil and ECM would also cause a miss?? I didnt think of that.....it runs strong but I have a vacuum leak somewhere so I was assuming gaskets failure. I found a good deal on an edelbrock intake so i bought it coz ill be replacing the gaskets anyway and i like to work on the car. Figured it wouldnt hurt and it would clean the engine up a bit. Let me know your suggestions. Trying to get HP without altering the low mileage engine yet, but I would be just as happy for now to eliminate the miss. Thanks!

The HO exhaust is a lot better than the LG4 variety, but still benefits from headers and high-flow cat. Cam and head improvements are really needed before you'll see benefits from an intake change.

If you know you have a vacuum leak, find and fix it. Is the miss at idle intermittent, or only the stalling with the miss being there all the time?

the car never has a smooth idle and has only stalled on me a few times when im at a light if i dont feather the gas pedal when stopped. never had used a vacuum gauge before but bought one this week. connected it to lines closest to the carb. reading was about 15 hmg. also if i let the car idle long enough the engine light comes on (goes out when i drive or raise the idle speed).

i bought a code key which included the code book for diagnosis, but i have been told the car runs lean and the engine light is indicating a lean code.
