needle seat and needle replace with new ones in the kit. float level set at 11/32. It does have a mech fuel pump. never seen one put out too much pressure? also timing chain was replaced with stock type. actually now that i think about it when i picked up the car it was sort of rough idle for about a minute but once warmed up it idled smooth. (well as much as poss with the cam.) after a day or 2 is when it started to throw the 45 code. and thats when it all started. if i can get the egr block off plate then i can install the holley and maybe rule out computer/ carb problems if not then i can look into rockers and maybe timing chain. ?????

ok switched out to a holley and vac dist. still rough idle. when given throttle will pop out of carb which leads me to think it is a timing issue. multimeter on o2 sensor shows about 850-880 still rich. well now going to look into rechecking timing tdc. dont really want to pull out timing cover. I really dont think it is the gear or chain as they are new. along with the cam and lifters. is there an easier way to check 1 cylinder tdc done by one person? really dont have anyone here to help. stuff rag in spark plug hole? does that really work?

I'd double check ignition timing first.

Did you verify timing advance at idle to plus 20 degrees? and that it's steady (relatively)? Even without a timing light you can spin your dist by hand to see if the idle changes (and if you get shocked it's a sign of a bad wire, etc.)

ok let it run a while last night and now runs much better. have yet to test drive due to ps pump off. but got to power brake in the driveway. i forgot i still needed to change plugs because these were all black and were cleaned with a wire brush. i probably have one fouled out still. got the timing set about 10*. now wont pop unless i really floor the throttle and only got it to do it once or twice. all i have is the old school timing light so unable to check what is at advanced but now does not die when put in gear. just need minor adjustments and ps pump. i would still llike to return to cc carb. will have to save up for new carb and dist.
