Idle Problems!

I have a Holley 650 with a vacuum secondary sitting on a 350, I have a 700r trans with a 2700 stall converter. I set my idle at 1050 runs good, tachs well but when I put it into gear my idle drops to about 550 and the car nearly stalls when I blip the throttle it does stall. I had to run my idle up to 1400 to correct this but it sounds way too fast. What should my idle be in gear and in park? Any ideas? Thanks

What cam, heads, intake, and exhaust do you have on it?

First, make sure the ignition is working properly. Are you using a stock computer controlled distributor, or one with vacuum/mechanical advance?

If that's up to snuff, check for vacuum leaks.

I have A new HEI distributor The only vacuum lines I have are one to the distributor advance, one to the brake booster, I checked those. I have not driven the car since I built the motor and changed to a carb. But I did have it idling properly at one time.

What changed between the time it did idle correctly and when it stopped idling correctly?

Well my accelerator pump for some reason started to leak full, so I took the carb off and replaced the diaghram in it. And the outdoor temp dropped about 20 degrees

The temp change probably doesn't have anything to do with it.

I'd suspect something with your base gasket, either leaking, or blocking something it shouldn't.

I reused the old gasket it looked fine but maybe the carb didn't seat like it was the first time. I really appreciate All of your help, I'll get a new gasket and go from there.
