Another bogging under hard acceleration question

I have an 86 IROC with goodwrench 350, edelbrock performer carb. ect. The car runs quite well since i bought it 2 years ago and i havent done any major adjustment on it. I think the problem im having is vapor lock, because the motor only bogs when its good and hot. The vapor canister and all that emmisions crap is not hooked up. is there an easy fix to this problem. Also, if u have some good tips on properly tuning my carb please tell. Sould i invest in a fuel pressure reg? is there metering rods, jets, or other parts to improve its performance. the car also lags off closed throttle. any suggestions for fixing that. I have a feeling all this has to do with my carb. it could be ignition but my hei distributor is farely good condition so i dont think its that.

any help would be great, thanks

Was it originally a carb'd car, or EFI? If you don't know, check the 8th character of the VIN - if it's G or H, it was carb. If F, it was EFI. Something else, it was V6 and EFI.

If it was originally EFI and the electric fuel pump in the tank wasn't hooked up or removed properly, then you very well could have a vapor lock problem. If it was converted from EFI and the in-tank electric pump is being used and you don't have a proper reg, you're begging for problems.

if the car was origionally a carbed car, and you are running a stock "return" style pump, you should not have any vapor lock problems. the preformer carbs are made to work with a max of 5.5 psi. any more and flooding can occur.

but as you are stating the problem, and the car ONLY bogs when its good and hot, then it sure looks like vapor lock, like the MOD said.

the 8th letter in the vin code is H, so it's the original setup was with a carb. It has a brand new holly mechanical pump on it and a new filter. The car can be hard to start also, and then it will bog. ill get a pic of my setup soon. maybe a hood insulator would be good? Maybe its about time for a carb rebuild anyways, or better yet a holley. the owner before me said the car was sitting for a few months before i bought it.

i have a similar pump, maybe even the same one and it will put out 9+ psi. you need a regulator. i had hard starting problems when worm with my edelbrock carb, and i went away after the requlator AND a good tuning of the carb. i cannot say that i like these carbs though, im running one now and i have never been able to get a bog/hesitation to tune out of it due to the lack of an adjustable secondary air valve, which i have traced to my problem.
you cant go wrong with a holley, but it will cost you.
