Need help selecting the right jets

To start this is my combo:
327 .030 over 9.6.1 compression,
195cc TFS heads,
single pattern 230 dur .480 lift
1.6 rockers
1 5/8 headers shorty
Edelbrock performer RPM intake
1 inch spacer
2800 stall

I tried to jet the 650 holley too the way they sell them in the catalog 67 front and 73 back but my headers started glowing. So I put 73 in the front and 74 in the back it started to run a lot better but it still seems like it could take more. Should I go to a 750 or keep jetting the 650? What jets should I use with both carbs? This car is a weekend warrior and will see a lot of 1/8 mile track time when its done. Also what gear should I run for this combo for the 1/8?

First, you need to understand why the stock jets had the difference between the primary and secondary as they did. It's because the primary has this thing called a "power valve" that opens under power and closes during cruise. It adds about 6-8 jet sizes to the actual flow under power. So, if jetting up the primaries helps the way it runs, then you should jet up the secondaries accordingly. Since you went up 6 jet sizes in the primaries, you should do the same for the secondaries - like 79-80.

This, of course, will only affect jetting under power. For cruise, just jet the primaries rich enough so you don't get surging and lean enough that the plugs stay clean. Then either jet the secondaries the same 6-jet-size step up, or jet for power.

Re: Need help selecting the right jets

Thanks for the help I will try the 6 size up in the back this might explain a loss in power when I shift to 2nd. Or could it be my TV cable isn't adjusted right?
I'm really a rookie when it comes to adjusting air bleeds and idle screw got any helpful tips on how to do it correctly?
