Fast Idle?
Sorry if this is a stupid question, but how long should my 87 T/A w/E4ME carb stay in fast idle and how high are each step? For a cold start I push the pedal and release and then turn the key and it starts right away and idles around 1800RPM then down to around 1300RPM, this takes about 30 seconds and usually tap the pedal and get it to idle down quicker to 1300. Then it stays there for about 2 minutes or so before finally idling down to 800. Is this too long? Other than that the carb seems to be set up perfectly. I'm scared to touch it because I don't know enough about it to adjust it, so want to keep it running like it is, but idle down quicker like fuel injected carbs. Can I get a hotter choke coil or something? I tried hooking up the air heat system but it didn't help much. I have the heat system disabled now because it seems to stay stuck in heat mode all the time. I think the air cleaner temp sensor is bad. Also is there any good info out there for dummies on this carb?

Sounds pretty normal to me. It would drive better with the thermovac system working, though.
There are two books titled "Rochester Carburetors" out there, one a shop manual by Haynes, the other by Doug Roe. Either one would be a good choice for understanding the basics of the carb.

Yah, sounds normal to me too. You can check out any 12v DC choke using a batt charger. I set mine on 2 amps, disconnect the choke wire and hook the pos + lead to the choke lead and the neg- lead to the carb body. This also checks for a good complete circuit. It should take around 3 to 5 min. to open.

Re: Fast Idle?
I watched it this morning with the air cleaner off and you could see the choke flap start slowly moving right away after starting. It is working Ok. But why do I have to tap the gas once to make it idle down after the choke is opening? I have cleaned and lubed the fast idle cam to see if it will help. It almost seems like something is stuck with the fast idle cam.
