...little smoke starting and sometimes stalls
I replaced my stock rochester q-jet carb with a rebuilt one --- same model as the original. I left the carb rebuild to an experienced mechanic. When i start the car in the morning, I notice a little bit of smoke from the exhaust. Also the car will start really well and right away but rpm's will occasionally drop and stall after initial startup. This is also true if I put it in gear before warming up. Can't figure out what happened. Does anyone have ideas? Thanks.

What color is the smoke?
Most likely the stalling is choke pull-off adjustment. As in, it's opening the choke a little too much when first started.

Re: ...little smoke starting and sometimes stalls
Thanks for the quick reply.
The smoke appears to be just white or at most an off white is that makes any sense. If in a small enclosure or garage, it smells horrible and almost like just burning fuel with nasty eggs smell mixed in for good measure....
very nice. I think if it were darker or blue, would be oil too, but havent seen it yet. Thats why i thought possible source was the carb.
I'll check the choke pull off, are these adjustable?? The little arm seems to work, but dont know what tolerances it should have compared to a new one. thanks again.

The pull-off is adjustable. The screw moves a little tab to give more or less choke opening.
