best carb for price
Hey, i am just thinking of what carb i should use one my car. Its an 84 camaro, the engine is a 350 from a 78 gmc pick up. Its still siting waiting to be installed, and i want to change thew things before putting it in. For one thing id like some hooker headers, a high performance cam and a wiend stelth intake manifoild. I was really looking towords the holley 650cfm double pumper. But it don't know if this is the correct choice. How many cfm's would you guys recomend?, and how much hp do you think this combo would give me.

650 is a good choice, but depending on if your engine is built up internatly or not, some ppl complain that the 650 is nice, but sometimes it falls short. The sweet spot for a 350 in terms of cfm is around 725, so i prefer the 750, but again some ppl complain its too much, cuz its easy to make too rich. Im talking all double pumpers here. Also im not a fan of edelbrock, but their 1406 model is incredibly popular in similar cfms. And lest we forget the all mighty Q-jet, some ppl over look it cuz its stock, but it has an overall cfm of almost 800cfm, and can be made to perform very nicely. Lots of gurus who know how to tune it, and parts are dirt cheap. Just get one from the 70's era, non ccc and without smog stuff.

properly tuned the Q-Jet can be a potent performer. The holley is inexpensive to purchase parts for as well, at least some things. All in all they all will perform decent for you as long as you get them jetted and adjusted right.

i agree 100%. Perhaphs you should focus your money on the tune and not the carb simply as a product. You can never just bolt on a carb and go, you gotta tune it to your block.

If it's a 4bbl and it's stock, it'll be a Quadrajet made by Rochester.

Re: Best carb for price?
Heres the three basic kinds of carbs. From top to bottom.
1) Rochester q-jet. (holley also makes a similar design, but its not their common carb). Can be recognized with its well known HUGE secondaries.
2) Holley. This is their double pumper, some of them look similar but are stubbier.
3) Edelbrock, can be recognized with its shape, and the two idle mixture screws located at the very front on either side of the huge vaccum port. Carter carbs had a similar design, basically an outdated edelbrock.
These are the three major designs, there are more out there. If you dont have any of these, you probably have something rare, and a picture would be helpful.
