CARB AND INTAKE PROBLEM

alright... I'm kinda new with this firebird....
i got a Edelbrock Performer intake manifold and i took off the electrical q- jet and put a mechanical q- jet on, and now my car idles really funny...like before i did this i could roast the tires off the line but now it kinda putters and chirps the tires a little bit and i can hardly power brake anymore, my car also shifts weird when i get on it

my friend has a 600 cfm holley carb that I'm buying off of him
DO YOU KNOW IF THIS WILL HELP MY PROBLEM??

Anything that you know that will help please let me know...

thanks a lot i appreciate your help!

Re: CARB AND INTAKE PROBLEM

Welcome to the forum,

So you had a Computer controlled carb, and tossed a non-computer controlled carb in it's place?

Well, with a computer controlled carb, the distributor (ignition system) will not function properly. The ignition system is waiting for carb inputs and it has none. Try replacing the distributor for a vacuum advance one, and with some minior tuning you should be set.

Also, without the inputs from the carb your transmission is not locking up properly too.
