Edelbrock 600 on a 305
Well i got around to putting my carb on my motor. hooked everything up and cranked it. started right up. after i set the timing and checked for leaks i took her out for a ride. right off the bat it stumbles when you go from P/T to WOT. after it starts going i get some black smoke out the pipes. my question is what am i going to need to do to tune my carb? i plan on doing some dyno tuning in school this week but i need to know what i'm gonna need. i can get a calibration kit from edelbrock for 50 bucks but idk if that comes with everything i'll need. i also have to tune the advance curve in the distributor. any suggestions on a curve that will work good? I.E how much advance and how fast it comes in? thanx for any help

36 degrees total mechanical (vacuum advance disconnected), it typically pretty good for small block Chevys. Start to bring it in at about 1000 RPMs and all in by 3500.
