matching manifold and cam?

hey guys ive always had a question ive been meaning to ask, i have a cam and intake manifold that are both rated 1500-6500, i was wondering what kind of issues would you run into using an intake manifold rated from idle to 6500 and a cam rated 1500-6500, would there be drivability issues along with some power loss?

They just need to be in the same range. 1500-6500 is a pretty typical range, idle to 6500 is probably a little over-sell.

What intakes and cams are you specifically talking about?

Idle to 6000RPM is a Weiland Action +Plus, The Stealth is 1500-6700RPM but i have been told they run real good off idle.

Re: matching manifold and cam?

i have the edelbrock kit, it came with the heads, cam and manifold, but my brother is running a lunati voodoo cam the rpm range is advertised as 1800-6200, but running a manifold idle-6000, i think it is an action-plus, i was wonding if this could contribute to some of his drivability problems, it has bad hesitation off the start, he has messed with the acceleration pump and tryed different cam lobes on the holley carb(650), but it still takes off horrible

Re: matching manifold and cam?

It may not be the best matched combo for power but it won't cause the problems you are descibing. Sounds like more of an issue with the one-way valves that are an (important) part of a Holley accelerator pump system, or possibly a simple misadjustment of the pump arm. You can play with pump cams and squirters all day but if those two things aren't working right it'll still fall on it's face bad when you nail it.
