Hey everybody! I am so excited that I finally have another 3rd Gen (my 4th one) I used to live in cali and I could never get them to pass smog or the motors would always go. Now I am going to school in Missouri and the smog laws are almost non-existant. My question is this; I just bought a 84 z28 H.O. for $750!It ran and everything but they guy before me put a 350 in it and tore all the smog stuff out. The stock quad was bad on it so i decided to buy a rpm manifold with a edel 600cfm carb. My question is since this car is still computer controlled how will this all turn out? Will it freak out on me since the new carb has no plug ins for sensors and the manifold is a non-egr? Also i have just bought a cam kit from comp 270H 1800-5800rpm. Agian will the computer freak out? Any help or advice since this is the first time I am building a 350 on a computer controlled vehicle. Thanks so much, and is their anybody on here in the Springfield area?

Badly. To run that carb, you need to eliminate the computer control and use a non-computer distributor. If you have an automatic transmission you'll also need to provide some way for the torque converter clutch to lock up.

Re: Edel on 84 z28, will it run right?
how exactly do I eliminate the computer control? Just by replacing the distributor? And what would be the right distributor to run? I'm sure this has been done before, I just have no clue what I need to get next. Basically my goal is to have a simple/old school controlled motor under my hood. Thanks for the help man, btw its a 5speed. And if i'm correct that means I have stock 3.73 gears right?

You get a distributor with vacuum and mechanical advance. The large cap coil-in-cap are pretty easy and plentiful. Power wire, tach wire, set timing, hook up vacuum advance, you're ready to go.

When you do that, the computer will be braindead and won't do anything - good or bad. The cam you put in is now just a matter of getting one that works with the rest of the combo.

I wouldn't use an Edelbrock carb with a T5. Demand based secondaries and manual transmissions aren't the best teammates.

oh ok thanks for the info. Why is a manuel with a T-5 so bad? Granted Iv'e always used this carb on old auto's but its been a great carb from my past experiance. Plus I already bought it

Re: Edel on 84 z28, will it run right?
im pretty sure the point here is vaccuum. the secondaries on eds work on vac, so when you are at wot then have to shift into a higher gear, normally, you release the gas and thus the secondaries close. then it takes that much longer for them to reopen.

with an auto, you just keep the gas mashed and its fine.

similar to a turbo and building boost.

Not sure exactly what you're recommending here. There isn't any such thing as an Edelbrock with mechanical secondaries.

are you positive it's a 350? have you verified the casting # or anything? What heads does it have on it? A decent 350 with a rpm intake and manual tranny would perform much better with a 650dp than with a 600vs carb
