Problem with starting my t/a!

First of all Thank you for this site and this forum. I bought my very first muscle car this summer a 1983 Trans Am! 305 T-top Automatic (in quebec manual birds and camaros are unfortunately REALLY REALLY hard to find).

So to make it pretty simple I have stripped the whole interior with a friend to fix the floor. Ever since then my car wont start :S
I've changed the battery and still nothing. I turn the key no clicks no nothing. Only the park and choke lights turn on when I turn the key. And something weird also my horn doesnt work anymore. Anyone know what the problem can be??? Like i said i doubt its a power issue because all the light come on and they seem pretty strong. Anyway thanks a lot guys and I cant wait to have my 3rd gen all restored next spring!

Welcome aboard thirdgen.org.

When you say "stripped the whole interior", are you talking about carpet only? Seats & carpet? Console, seats & carpet? What all was taken out? There is a neutral safety switch on the shifter, if you unplugged that, nothing will happen when you turn the key to start.

What have you done around the steering column? The horn wire will be around there somewhere.

Re: Problem with starting my t/a!

Welcome aboard! It sounds like five7 is thinking along the right lines, it would be really helpful if you could elaborate as to what all was removed when you "stripped" it out. If you did remove the center console and shifter or unplugged the connector to the shifter(the neutral saftey switch on it) most likely five7 hit the nail on the head, without the neutral saftey switch to complete the circuit the starter won't do anything. So I guess what I'm rambling about is give us as much info as possible, if you could take some pics of the interior and show us that may also prove useful, or if that fixed your problem let us know. I'll stop rambling now...

Re: Problem with starting my t/a!

Well the steering wheel is still there so is the dash and all. But I deconnected the radio the heat and cooling panel and so the center console. So maybe I should try reconnecting everything but what I dont understand is that I dont see any wires going to the shifter it only looks like a plain and simple cable! Anyway im only 20 years old and have a LOT to learn !

Thanks a lot for answering my thread let me know what you guys think! I ll take pictures tomorrow!
