Electric choke wiring
Hey guys I just installed the electric choke conversion kit from holley to convert my mechanical choke 4150 to electric choke. One question, the installation instructions say...
14. Connect the long wire from the kit to the positive choke cap terminal marked (+). Connect the other end of the wire to a
fused ignition activated 12V source. The choke cap should only get voltage when the engine is running. Check your
voltage source with a voltmeter.
My question is where have you guys hooked up the +12 volt wire?ive have plenty of wires I can splice into that have 12 volts when ignition is on but what about one thats only 12 v with engine on? Only place I could think of is the alternator possibly. This is on my '90 if that helps any, L98 converted to carb

Re: Electric choke wiring
For ignition power I soldered a fuse extender from Napa to a block & plugged into a fuse only powered w/ ignition (radio).
Is this for the the LG4?

Re: Electric choke wiring
This is on the '90 with the Carbed L98. I can get ignition power easily but maybe Im misinterpreting the instructions provided by holley...
"The choke cap should only get voltage when the engine is running."
When the engine is runnign not when the ignition is just in the on position for accessories and waht not, like the radio. Thanks, but I dont think that helps my prob

I chose to run mine to an un-used fuse in the fuse block that is hot in run. However, that means the choke is heating regardless of the motor starting or not (It hasn't presented any problems for me as yet, but if you have a hard starting motor, you might heat the choke up without successfully starting the motor.)
A place you could tap in is on the oil pressure switch on the back of the motor. It is a hot in start and run circuit when the motor developes enough oil pressure to close the switch.

Re: Electric choke wiring
wire it in on a relay that will open when your electric fans go on that way it will be open when the engine is warm and use that empty bay on the fuse block to power it when the ignition is in the on position
