Re: air gap?
yes well depending on your air filter. I have the edelbrock performer rpm. From what i understand its about the same size as the air gap and if not maybe an inch smaller. Well i have a 2 1/4 k&n filter (knn-60-1263) and my hood didn't close until i got this drop base 85-3549 from k&n

Which Air Gap manifold were you thinking of getting?
In general, the AG and non-AG versions of any particular type of manifold will have the same carb mount height.
Any carb intake requires the use of a drop-base air cleaner.
I'm more concerned about why the Edelbrock carb (unjustifiable in almost any situation I've seen). What "small block" engine are you talking about?

Re: air gap?
what do you mean about the edelbrock being unjustifyable? i have one and yes i would like to change it to a holley double pumper because of my t5 after i read a post you made about how it works better after shifting.

Re: air gap?
just a standard 350 and i was thinking about a performer air gap or a performer rpm air gap, cause thats my choices, also an edelbrock cause thats what i already have

Was this car TPI or carb stock?
If carb, the stock q-jet is a better choice. If the Edelbrock is all you have, then, go ahead and run it. It will fit under the hood with a drop base air cleaner.
If you have a manual transmission, the best carb choice is a mechanical secondary type. Unless you never get out of the primaries - then it doesn't much matter.

Has to do with the ability of the engine to suck air through the venturis at low RPM. The air valve in the Edelbrock is supposed to keep that from being a problem.
If the Edelbrock is what you have, and you're happy with that, then go for it. If you still had the stock q-jet, it's a better carb than the Performer.
