Any particular reason for VS? Other than "standard" recommendations?
Need to know more about your engine, transmission, and use to make a solid recommendation.
The vacuum for the distributor vacuum advance should be "full" or manifold vacuum, first choice, or "timed" or "ported" vacuum, second choice. Either port is on the carb itself.

Re: starting my swap.
only reason id go with a VS is it seems to be more popular. here is what i have
350, cammed 111lsa, .474 lift, heads: 2.02/1.6 valves, trans is 700r4 with 2500 stall. no gear in the back yet.
i dont mind tuning a cab, but id like a user friendly one. i have WBo2 to help tune. as im going from tpi to carb

You'll be happier, if performance is your goal, with a double pumper. Tuning is no more difficult than the VS, and arguably easier.
What's the duration of the cam?
What intake manifold are you thinking of using?
Is this a fun street car, or do you plan some strip time?
