need help on sticking cam

last 2 days my cc carb's cam has been sticking even when the motor/carb is hot. it's causing the motor to stay at 1300 rpm, heat up the engine, suck gas, cruise at 30 to 35 without being asked, & then diesel when turned off. anyway, the cam goes back to normal when lightly touched. here's an old picture before my carb was rebuilt last August w/ an arrow pointing out the cam.

before going down the wrong track, what common cause(s) and adjustment/fixes?

Common cause is dirt (including gum, varnish, general crud).

Common fix is to clean it.

This is assuming the choke butterfly is opening completely. From what you said, sounds like it is.

Re: need help on sticking cam

five7kid,
sprayed B-12 cleaner this morning and also noticed,

that my electric choke wire was disconnected. think I had an inefficent "manual" electric choke set-up because of my broken choke wire connector slipping off.

putting a new choke wire connector on real soon. Thanks --

You should check to make sure your Choke light is working on the gauges. When my choke heater wire is disconnected, it makes the Choke light come on.

that woulda been nice. saw the choke light in past when starting car. maybe a bulb is out. will have to look closely when starting the car to see if that lights lighting. at least the gauge shows alternator working at 13+ amps when cold & 12 when warm. w/ choke wire attached the car is now running fine.
