89 TPI TO CARB WIRING AGAIN-
YES I KNOW POSTED BILLIONS OF TIMES, BUT HAVE NOT SEEN THIS ANSWERED CORRECTLY.
3RD GEN 82'-86' ECM AND WIRING ON PASSENGER SIDE PULL OUT W/O NEEDING ANY OF THOSE WIRES FOR CARB SWAP EXCEPT ONE WOULD NEED TO WIRE THE FP,FANS.
3RD GEN 88'-92' IT SEEMS YOU DO NEED SOME WIRES FROM THE ECM TO STAY INTACT....
SO WHO DID THE SWAP ON AN 89? WHAT IS THE REAL STORY ON WHAT STAYS AND GOES FROM THE ECM WIRING GOING TO THE MOTOR AND ACCESSORIES?
IN 89' DID THEY WIRE A TPI LIKE AN 86'?

It IS possible to run the Dual fans with the ECM, but it is not reliable at all.
The simplest way is to wire the ground from the fan relay to utilize the stock fan switch. At a certain temp it will cut the fans on. Hypertech sells one for $40 that has a lower temp.
You can remove all the Injector wires, or save some for the sake of having spare ignition sources. The ECM controls the injector grounds not power. So power is always available.
The alternator is not controlled by the ECM. The ECM does get a reference voltage but that is about it.
You can snip all the following:
Knock sensor wire.
ESC wiring
MAF wiring
TPS
IAC
MAT
EGR
Distribtor wiring
AIR PUMP
:
Make sure you keep the Coil and tach wire intact, and buy the HEI connectors from jegs, so it clips in the distributor stock $10 for both
If you use the AC still everything will work.
