Going to carb.

I am going to go with an Edelbrock 1405 Remanufactured due to lack of funds, due to the blowing away of money put towards the F***ing TBI. So what EXACTLY do i need? I don't want to run into being surprised by more parts that i need to buy. Distributor, carb, throttle mount, do i need a new throttle cable cause some use that ball style? or can i use my tbi throttle cable. and yes i know EFI gets better gas mileage but thats not a problem for me. I'm sick of the EFI having to be retuned and still not being right. Any thoughts or suggestions for different parts will be greatly appreciated. Thanks guys.

Re: Going to carb.

i actually swapped my tbi to carb..first off DONT GO EDLEBROKE..if theres one thing i remotely know is there carbs are junk.id buy a holley 650 vacume secondary if you shouldnt need more than that. i use a 650 dp,

my exact setup is as follows:
-distributer
-kickdown bracket for your trans
-theres a bracket that goes to the kickdown bracket to get the correct swing if your going with the holley carb so shift points are right
-holley 650 Double Pumper carb
-carb stud kit
-Mallory #4309 Fuel pressure regulator (the FP needs to be way lower like 6psi efi is alot higher youll wreck the carb)
-gaskets for the intake and the carb
-new intake id use an edleb rpm intake i used a air gap its a little nicer a reg rpm intake will work just fine if your tight on cash
-3 or 4 ft of -6 braided fuel line
-fuel rail (35$ one nothing fance just a basic one with a spot for a penut FP guage
-peanut Fuel pressure gauge to adjust the fp from the reg to the carb
-fittings for the reg to carb youll need quite a bit of em there AN fittings
-air cleaner
-possibly a jet kit for the carb

id be prepared to run into hood clearance issues possibly btw

i believe that should be it. i just did mine if you have any questions shoot me a PM and ill get back to you asap the fittings are hard to describe

only advice i got is if your tight on cash deal with the efi SAVE UP and do it once right or spend the same amount to half *** it twice and have the car down for the count longer.

v10viper04, it would be nice to know what problems you've been having with the TBI before making recommendations. You could be jumping out of the frying pan and into the fire.

There is a link to a tech article about this task in the "Welcome to the Carb Forum" sticky in the top section of this forum.

As a disclaimer, you understand this is not a legal modification per EPA regulations in any vehicle used on public roads in any state in the United States, regardless of whether or not inspections or testing is required where you live.

Its good to see your finally going carb, try to go with holly 650 and get a holly high rise itake to match however that might $$$, and yes your tbi throttle cable will work perfect however you might need a adjustable throttle cable bracket.

The car doesn't make anywhere near the power i think it should be making, its actually slower now then it used to be with the stock L05, bottom line is the power isn't there.....

Re: Going to carb.

I meant all the stock L05 parts that went into the car before i changed em. Running L05 out of a blazer dropped into third gen then i changed the heads, cam, intake, and had a custom chip burned and it doesn't have anywhere near the power it should.... its slower with the cam/Vortec heads/ and intake than it was with the stock swirlports stock cam and stock intake manifold..... its very frustrating!

TUNING, TUNING, TUNING, TUNING. You will have to tune even with a carb and a regular old HEI distributor. Same theory but different hardware. I would use the existing hardware (TBI and EST distributor) to tune your engine. Carbs are stone-age technology compared to even the TBI. You will be much happier with a properly dialed in TBI setup.

The chip is most likely 100% your problem. I would also check the fuel pressure @ WOT and higher rpms. If it dives down look at the fuel filter and fuel pump just to make sure you have ample fuel. If you don't have enough fuel you will never have the performance. If the tuning sucks, you will never have the performance you need, want, and have locked in the engine.
