Check for leaking well plugs in the carb draining the bowls when it's parked for an extended period.

Re: hard cold start?
i tried starting the car again tonight i was playing with the throttle and choke on the carb to see how it works so i must have give it at least 20 pumps plus at least 10 foot pumps and it started pretty instantly
but i will have that well plug checked also do you guys know how much amps the glass fuse is for the under hood light (whats left of the fues says 4 SFE)? thanks again for the help
edit: i figured out that what i wrote is the type of fuse i need
