in over my head
in over my head
i recently purchased an 86 ta i've had several f bodys but this one has got me stumped i do know it is the original q-jet setup however there are vacuum lines cut broke and unhooked everywhere it did seem to run quiet well but it seem to wanna shift too soon so i attempted to adjust the tv cable now it shifts better but wants to hesitate at low rpms i have no idea if the tv cable has anything to do with that or not so if anyone could help to point me in the right direction that would be great

Welcome aboard thirdgen.org.
The TV cable can only be adjusted one way - the right way. If you try to modify the transmission performance by changing the TV cable adjustment, you're going to burn up the transmission. You can search the Transmission and Drivetrain forum for the proper adjustment procedure. If you want to change the shift point, you need to change the govenor weights/springs.
There are vacuum diagrams posted on the FAQ forum. There should be a sticker under your hood, unless it's come off (mine is still there).
By any chance is your SES light coming on? Does it work? It should come on when you turn the key to "On" and go off after the engine starts.

Re: in over my head
yes the light does work when i turn the key on but its not throwing it when im driving. I did look in the other forum about the tv cable thats actually where the idea came from didn't really wanna modify shift points just make them right. i'll have to check about that sticker under the hood not sure but i don't believe its there

The sticker should be on the underside of the hood. Some were on the radiator shroud, they moved them to the hood when they went to electric radiator fan (I think that's when, anyway).
