87 intake/carb choice
I have had a TPI 350 for four years now and want to switch finally to a carb. The problem is i have never been around carbed engines ever always stuck with EFI. SO my question is what is the best intake manifold/ carb for my car. The engine is stock minus edlebrock headers. New block. I want to put the carb sytem on first and then sometime in the future not sure how long (probably a little while) want to install a cam then maybe head work. So after all that basically i want to know what is the best setup that will allow for me to do this. I also would love it if I did not have to change from my stock hood. Mostly because i have an expensive paint job because of fleck... and i dont have the money to buy a new hood. Any suggestions would help and if there is no other options than to buy a new hood i guess i will just have to... just delays the project and i hate waiting haha. P.s. this is my daily driver car and intereseted in making it a fast street car that does not totally kill me with MPG

I know this is the Carburetor forum, but it you want a fast daily driver with good fuel economy that fits under a stock hood, consider this http://store.summitracing.com/partde...5&autoview=sku .
Add up what it'll cost you just to convert to carb, and this will be both the short- and long-term less expensive route.

Ok lets say i did do this HSR conversion... Are there noticeable hp gains or is it a waste of money and i should just stick with my stock TPI setup? sorry for this not being carb related.

I would say on a stock 350 TPI, you'll def see a pretty big gain. Especially if you have supporting mods like headers and exhaust. I believe it's something like 30 horse over the TPI set up.

No more difficult than a conversion to carb. Since you have an '87, PROM tuning wouldn't be a necessity.
But, as stated, other mods such as cam and exhaust would make it work even better. You should be able to do much better than 12 MPG.

Re: 87 intake/carb choice
if you want to go to a carburated setup that will fit under the hood, go with an edlebrock performer style intake the rpm performer is a better higher rpm manifold but you will want a cam to use the higher rpm power it will be a bit boggier before you have your cam but then you wont have to buy to different manifolds. as for a carb for a stock 350 you want a 650 cfm carb prefferably a holley dp at a minimum, but demons are MUCH better!!
