350 carb issues
Hey guys,
I've been on the boards for quite a few months now and I guess it's time to get around to tuning my carb. First off, I'll say that I know little about how a carb works other than it dumps fuel into my intake. It's an edelbrock carb (600 or 650cfm I believe) and an edelbrock performer intake on a crate 350 4 bolt engine. Now that the cold weather has set in around NY, I am having some rather large issues keeping it running (don't worry, I don't drive it through salt and snow). Firstly, it has become a large pain to start it in the morning. I understand this is common with carb'd engines, but I've got to pump it quite a lot. Secondly, it insists on stalling out unless I give it gas until it gets warmed up a little bit. After it's warmed up, I drive it down the road and come to a gradual stop and it stalls out. Now, I also should mention it has always 'hunted' around for an idle (speeds up, slows down). Last thing is I have noticed on my autometer A/F gauge that when idling, it bottoms out beyond lean on the sensor. When I give it some gas, it will come up to stoich, then back down past lean. When driving, it's always down past lean, and never once even while I'm on the throttle have I seen it get up to rich. Can someone give me an idiot's how-to on adjusting the mixture? Thanks.

Re: 350 carb issues
I have never looked at an Edelbrock carb but I'll bet it has a choke flap & a fast idle cam for cold starts. Hopefully someone here has some info on that carb. If not you can probably go online to Edelbrock and ask for a manual for that carb. A manual is always nice to have.
Most aftermarket carbs have air/fuel mixture screws to adjust idle and part throttle mixture. Again,a manual would be great here but I bet some online searching would bring up something.
You might want to check for any vacuum leaks since that can also cause the symptoms you described as well as the ignition timing.

Re: 350 carb issues
check choke first.
maybe this manual is for is your carb? https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/carb...e-rebuild.html
think you can find other pdf manuals on edelbrock web site

Thanks for the replies. I'll look at the manual. I should mention the idle hunts for rpm's year round, so that particular point is not exclusive to the cold weather.
