chip versus carb mods?

So, I have a Trans Am -85 lg4 305. It has a freeflowing exhaust, mild cam crane 114112(still an improvement over stock..) and a dual snorkle setup from a l69. Now I want to either mod the carb to resemble a l69 carb or get an aftermarketchip that makes timing and fuel-curve more aggresive....
My question: Should I stick with getting a good aftermarket chip for an lg4 ( like jet J2018511S), or should I also do changes to the carb?

There isn't that much to do to the carb beyond secondary rods & hanger.

You probably won't see much difference with a chip, but I'm not familiar with what a Jet chip does for you, either.

Re: chip versus carb mods?

Actually what Im looking for from a chip, is adjusted timing. Thats the main reason I want one. Dont know if I want stage 1 or 2 though.....
Regarding the carb I just thought that tehe chip and secondary rod/hanger mods would achive the same effects and that doing both would be overkill..

I didnt think that the timing was computer controlled even with the CC carb

It sure is. That's why you disconnect the ECM connector before setting the timing.

L69's had knock sensor, as did the higher compression LG4's from '85-'87.

Not really. More like you need to do both in order to achieve max benefits from either.

My 84 L69 has a knock sensor, though I'm not sure how much the timing is actually controlled by the computer, though I know it is. It's got to be one of the most primitive computers ever put in a car.
