help with carb conversion
help with carb conversion
does anybody have pics that show whats involved with tpi to carb conversion. What i'm looking for is wiring how to. I read on this forum that you can disconnect the wiring for the ecu on the passenger side but you will lose certain things like trans lockup and electronic console capability for the guages. I have a 91 with 700r4 and i'm new to chevy. If i don't disconnect the ecu could i keep those things working? From what i understand i have the electronic console. thanks
Re: help with carb conversion
Also any info on how much converter i could go up without affecting overdrive.I don't think losing lockup is a big deal but i've never had overdrive so i could be wrong, any input appreciated. I just want to cover as much as possible before i get in too far.lol

Losing lock-up is a big deal, especially with a higher stall converter. Unless the transmission is modified for non-lock-up, which involves more than just changing the torque converter. Without lock-up, you'll burn out the 3-4 clutch pack.
Higher stall doesn't affect overdrive.
The TV cable (no, it's not a "kick down" cable) is also critical. What carb are you putting on? A Holley or Edelbrock, I assume, meaning you need a "geometry corrector bracket" on the throttle arm.
Without the input from the factory TB and distributor, the only computer function that will continue to work is the fuel pump relay. Gages will work, because they don't go through the computer. I believe cruise control will continue to work as long as you don't disturb those wires or parts (but I'm not completely sure about that).
Wiring is a matter of retaining what you need - coil power, tach, gages - and removing or stowing what you don't. Cutting isn't necessary, although splitting wires out of a loom may be.
I don't recall seeing any pictures of this posted on the Board, although some wiring diagrams have been.
