SWAP! complete... few questions...

Ok so finally after months im finally done with my swap. Worked on the car all day and finally got her running/driving ect....

Car runs great! alot harder that it did with the tpi. Fires right up. does big burnouts all thats good stuff.

so a couple questions/issues:

1. I know everyone says you have to lock up your TC one way or another, but i did not do anything to lock it up and it runs perfect??? i have a 3500 stall vigilante tc and it gets up and goes just fine. Now im confused to why you have to have it "locked up". this might be a reatarded ? on my part but im just confused and want to clairify.

2. when i removed all the TPI harness ect. i also removed the plug from the alternator. i have the plug with all the wires cut at a long length. the alt is not charging. i even put a volt meter on it to make sure. So question is do all those wires that are coming out of the plug need to be hooked up? or does it just need a source of power? or should i just get a regular old one wire alt and be done with it.

3. i have a 700r4 obviously, when i ratchet it manually into first and drive normal from a dead stop it will go and shift into 2nd automatically. now im confused to why it shifts on its own? if i manually put it in 1st, shouldnt it stay in first until i click it up?? it goes into 2nd by itself but you have to manually shift to third. and it does the same if you stage it. it will start off in 1st...shift into 2nd... and unless i manually shift it into 3rd it wont go. normal??

in theory it shouldnt shift right? just like it you took a regualr auto car/truck and stick it in 1st it would stay there and bang off the limiter unless you shifted up, so that is where im lost.

all in all im stoked! on the swap. it took alot longer and alot more $ than i wanted to spend, but it was well worth it. next step is 4.11's...150 shot...and some tires!

any help would be appriciated!

If all you do is drag race the car, or if you never cruise above 40 MPH, the lock-up isn't required. But, if you cruise above 40 MPH, you need the lock-up to avoid burning up the 3-4 clutch pack. If you don't mind rebuilding the transmission every once in awhile, don't bother hooking up the lock-up.

With 3500 stall, you'd better be using an external transmission cooler in addition to the cooler built into the radiator as well.
