cc quadrajet Build need advice

I have an 87 Formula 79,000 original miles with an lg4 305 and cc quadrajet with the numbers 17087130 2796 jsd. Here is what has been done so far: It has been dipped, all sensors have been replaced, new rebuild kit/floats, and reset to factory settings, when I get a chance I will adjust the air valve and make sure the secondaries open up all the way. Other than that is is ready for on-car tuning. I have headers with a hooker aero chamber cat back system ready to go on for spring along with 3.73 gears that are already installed. What I want to do is since I still have the carb off, I want to change out everything that needs to be changed to get the best performance like maybe rods and hangers and anything else that really makes a difference. I do not care about emissions since the smog pump and any other unnecessary parts will be coming off to make room underneath the hood. Also, in the future if I find a nice stout 350 of some kind, I would like to be able to use this carb if at all possibe. Any help is greatly appreciated, thanks, Bret

Re: cc quadrajet Build need advice

The primary difference you'll need to be concerned about will be the secondary rods and hangers, easily changed with the carb installed. Many users have installed the ccc-qjet on a more robust motor with no other changes, including me.

The L69 ccc-qjet came with better secondary rods and hangers along with a slightly better ECM which provided more aggressive timing. It may have also come with larger primary jets, although I haven't been able to personally verify this.

Mine runs fine on a 350 with vortec heads and a mild cam. The power's in the secondaries.

Re: cc quadrajet Build need advice

my brother had already re-assembled the carb after so I am not sure what exact rods are actually in it but I would venture to guess they are not DR rods. Also, if what you can see from the top of the carb is actually the the hanger, there is an H stamped on one the piece you can see right in top of it. So is a G hanger and DR rods for the all around best combination? Also should any jets be changed, and can they be changed? Thanks, Bret

ya, that's good combo for our motors to get some speed. the secondary rods and hanger can be taken out with the carb on the car. check out the sticky at the top of the forum for a parts break down or the carb rebuild sheet should show that too.

Re: cc quadrajet Build need advice

Just wondering if anybody else can chime in with some good advice on the carb issue. Also, with wanting more agressive timing among other things, what do I have to buy as far as programming goes? Does an 87' LG4 car come with a standard chip like I would have had on my old 87' tpi trans am or do these carbed cars have to have a whole different ecm where you cannot change an actual chip. Thanks, Bret

It has a chip. The two "best" were the L69 and the ZZ4 kit chips.

More aggressive timing is a matter of upping the base timing. The LG4 chip will handle a 350 just fine - see my vBGarage.
