1986 350 carbed...will i pass emissions?

There a very good chance i will be purchasing a 1986 camaro with a brand new carbed 350. Im not sure if the car was orig. carbed or not so my question is i dont want to get a car that i will have to dump a ton of money into it to get it to pass.

If the car was orig a tbi/tpi and now is a carb will it pass?

if it was orig. a carb car and now it just has a new engine that is still carb i should be ok right?

for the people who have converted from tbi/tpi, what have you had to do to get your car to pass?

You can always get a carbed car to pass with some tuneing skill and time lots of dirty tricks out there. Now depending on what emmissions systems are still in tact you may or may not pass. Although you many not even have to worrie as cars 25 years and older dont do emmissions and an 86 modle year car (built in 85) will turn 25 next year. So if its a nice car it may take some work but concidering the most youll ever have to go through emmissions is once might be worth while.

Way too many unknowns there. Carb, cam, exhaust, original equipment, rigor of testing and inspection.

With some more information, an informed guess could be attempted.

Rolling Thunder:
Thanks for the info. i knew that a car didnt need to go through emissions after it was a certain age, wasnt sure what the age was, good to know it has to pass once more.

five7kid:
I know i left out a lot of info thats becasue i dont have the info. i am going to see the car tomorrow, i asked the owner to send me the vin on the car so that i could check a few things and he didnt want to send it untill i saw the car in person. once i get more info. ill post it. i know the car has been completely redone. its in REALLY good shape according to the pics, and at a price i cant pass up (if it looks as good in person as it does in the pics). if you want to see what it looks like i posted some in the photo gallery.

thanks again

Well as 57 said no one can tell if that particular car will pass, but if its got the emissions equipment hooked up including a Quadrajet, it should be able to pass, but then again if you wanted to, you get it to pass yourself. Last fall I got my 350 with a mild cam to pass inspection without an EGR or AIR system. I plan to reinstall them, but the parts weren't ready.
