Carb problem?

hey, i wasnt sure if this was an engine problem or not. so im posting this question here to see if i can get an answer or an idea what my problem is.

i have an 87 z28 with a 350 chevy in it. and lately i have been having problems with it shutting off randomly!

it usually happens if i was to step on gas and go fast for alittle bit and after stopping and cruising once again it will start to idol lower and lower until it would shut off!

i thought maybe it was old gas at first but i ran out of gas and put new 87octaine fuel in it, and stil nothing.

then i thought maybe it can be the fact that my gas tank was old and all dirty inside because my car did infact sit for about 7month.

to remedy this i baught a fuel filter that is applied at the hose before the carb, but still nothing it still tends to shut off after giving it alot of gas.

would this be an Carb problem? or something else? sorry if this is in the wrong topic or w.e

3rd gens never came with a 350 carb, so one or the other has been put into the car.

What carb, distributor, fuel pump, etc.?

Re: Carb problem?

You may be running too rich. What kind of carb you got? What might be happening is when you floor it and then let off a bit you are receiving more fuel then you can burn completely. Resulting in flooding the engine then bogging and finally stalling. Check your plugs, a dark carboned plug would be too rich. Adjust your air to fuel mixture. If you have an electric fuel pump turn the regulator down. It also could be something in your tank like you thought. When it finally starts again is there a little black smoke coming out the pipes? This is also a sign of flooding.
