Need advice about quadrajet
Hi
I just about had it with my quadrajet e4me. I bought a rebuild kit and dismantled the carb but its in a bad shape, someone have tightend it too much and the body and airhorn is bent. what can i do.
I`m thinking about buying a new carb couldt be a Holly 600 Cfm electrik choke and a new distributer and discard the quadrajet and hei ignigtion including the computer.
It`s a chevy 305 smallblock engine and the catalytic converter is long gone.
What would you choose, a rebuild quadrajet, a new holly or perhaps a new edelbrock ?
or choose a old non computercontrolled quadrajet and just buy another distributer
Any advice will be much appriziated.
Kind Regards Stig

I would take the quadrajet, especially if its a stock motor.. I dont think it would be worth converting to non-computer set up. Score one from a junkyard

Hey Stig,
Personally I'm a Q-Jet person. Several reasons. First of all once they are dialed in Q-Jets hold thier "tune" way longer than any Holley product I've ever used in the past. Secondly, not that it matters a whole lot, but the small primaries offer a little city driving economy, and third when those huge secondaries are opened, the noise they make is just awesome.

That is a common problem with q-jets. The bad news is there isn't much you can do to fix it.
I'd recommend getting another q-jet. It wouldn't cost any more than switching to the Holley (don't forget the Holley won't bolt to a stock intake manifold), and gives better fuel economy with no less power than the Holley will.

Thanks for your replys
If i was living in the US.... i`ll go for the junkyard carb but an exstra problem is i`m living in europe and all junkyards are full of european and japanese cars, it will be hard to find a trans am just sitting there. thats why.
I`ve dicided to go for a Edelbrock performer intake, Edelbrock performer carb and a Mallory perf HEI distributer all brand new, and hopes that i`ll be cruising this weekend.
Many Thanks for your help
Many greetings from Denmark ( just above Germany ) Stig

Re: Need advice about quadrajet
I know you have already decided but I have to add a plug for the Q-jet. I have had several of them. If you can get someone who knows what they are doing to rebuild one, you wont be disappointed. They really work well when rebuilt correctly and are properly adjusted. To me its worth spending a good buck (still cheaper than new after market carb and intake) getting it rebuilt or buying another one and having it rebuilt. http://www.carburetion.com/Restoration.asp Here is a link. Looks expensive but I haven't priced Holley or Edlebrock in a while. Plus thats for a nice plated one. There is a note at the bottom to call for a price if you dont want it plated.

I couldn't have said it better myself.
You can always buy a cc-qjet, used. Maybe from someone on this board? Check the classifieds. Maybe put up a parts wanted ad.

I have one I took off my car. Give me your zipcode and city so I can see how much to ship. I want 75.00 for it. You pay shipping.

Hey again.
Thankyou very much 1986bluez28, it`s very kind of you to offer me to buy your carb and take time to ship it over. But i`m determined now on the Edelbrock carb. intake and a new distributer. because it assure me that I`ll have many trouble free miles to enjoy my Pontiac, when all is new.
Kind Regards
Stig
