electric fuel pump to mechanical
i converted my 89 iroc tpi to carb. i bought a mech fuel pump. question i have is, can i leave the electric pump in the tank and just cut the power wire. my concern is that will the mechanical pump draw fuel from the electric pump setup with power disconnected. my cam has the lobe for the pump. i don't see a need for any regulator, but what about the return line to the tank. can i connect a hose to it and vent it at the air cleaner. is that safe.

Either keep the pump powered, or remove it.
There's nothing wrong with a regulator. In fact, the ideal fuel system for carb would be a pump back by or in the tank, regulated to the carb.
If you use the in-tank pump, which is a fine approach, use a return-style regulator.
