I recently bought an 87 z28 305 T5 Carbed. What is the tube that runs from under the air cleaner to the passenger side fender? After the car is turned off sometimes it will blow air through it up to the carb. Whats the purpose of this? Emission related garbage like all the other garbage under the hood? I hate all the clutter haha.

It's to help prevent boiling of the fuel in the carb bowl when the engine is shut off hot. With the high under-hood temperatures of our cars, it's a pretty good thing to have.

One last question about it. Occasionally it will seem to run forever unless I turn the IGN to acc and then to off a couple times. that will eventually shut it off. Does it usually run for a long time. Im just worried if it would drain the battery

It runs until the coolant temperature gets below the switch preset point. On mine, the switch is in the heater hose coming off the water pump. Since coolant isn't circulating except by cooling effect (cooler water more dense, goes down, etc.), it can take awhile for the temp to drop, especially if you shut it off hot (the radiator fan doesn't come on until 238 degrees F).

FWIW, mine never ran the battery down.
