Holley 650 dp idle inconsistent
I did some searches but couldnt really find anything. Most of it was abotu a high idle around 2000 RPMs or so and other things of that nature, the rest were CCQjet specific things... so I come to you guys asking for help.
For whatever reason, my idle on my car will settle anywhere in a 300 RPM range depending on how I have it set.
I have it set up right now where a quarter turn one way when warm will make it idle at 600 RPMs, and a quarter turn the other way is 900 RPMs. This is referring to the idle screw. Is this normal?
And sometimes when I pop it into neutral it will settle to a 1000 RPM idle, and sometimes it will settle to an 850 RPM idle. To me 1000 RPMs just seems way too high. I dont like it idling that high.
And run into the problem above. Several turns of adjustment will do nothing on the idle screw, then all of a sudden it idles at 600 RPMs and stalls out all over the place. I cant seem to find a happy medium.
Then when I gave up and set it to idle at 900 where it wants to idle, sometimes it will just settle at 600 and almost die for no reason.
Anyone have any ideas where to look? Some google searches tonight were showing some people talking about worn out throttle shafts that had a little play in them. Thoughts on that?
Edit: To anyone doing searches, turned out to be my distributor's mechanical advance mechanism getting stuck intermittently.
