Carberator switch Quadrajunk to Edlebrock 1406
Ok Ive seen all these posts about ooo keep your quadrajet blah blah blah far superior computer controlled if tuned right. My *** =] Ive had mine rebuilt 2-3 times & its always been junk. I'm sick of it =p
So now that I bought a edlebrock 1406, I need to know what I need to do to basically go from cc to non cc without screwing anything up etc You get my point xD I heard you need to change distributer and what not, so how will this affect my 700r4, is there anything else I need to do?
Btw my car gets like 8mpg, actually I'm pretty sure just under that, partial transmission & the horrible quadrajet, & my cars basically all stock

Re: Carberator switch Quadrajunk to Edlebrock 1406
Ugh, ok ok, i'll admit i'm a fan of the Q-jet - but the non-cc version. They are simpler. Computer controlled carbs scare me.
But if you're going to "upgrade" your quadrajet, at least make it an upgrade eh? There's a list of carbs that are BETTER than a q-jet (and i'm a q-jet fan, but i'll admit there is improvements out there) -- an Edelbrock is NOT a better carb. A holley, Demon, etc are going to be better. But this Edelbrock will just be more of a headache.
Here's what you need to do though:
- You will need a non computer controlled distributor. $100 off summit for a base model. I'd recommend you get a re-curving kit too
- You didn't have the foresight to mention which transmission you have. If you have a stickshift, no worries, if you have an automatic - then you need a way to control your lockup / kickdown. To be honest, I forget which it is, since I never had to deal with it...
I think that's the main two things. You can then remove your computer in your car and pretty much throw it away. Pull your check engine light, and throw away your O2 sensor, they're decorations now.

That's where mine will be headed as soon as I can. Too many projects going on and it isn't as if that car is a daily driver or anything. The thing isn't that old and the throttle blades stick on it.

Re: Carberator switch Quadrajunk to Edlebrock 1406
There is no reason outside of mechanical failure where one carb(edelbrock) is harder to tune(within reason) than another.
Is your ignition in good order, how about fuel supply(mechanical, electric, gravity fed-j/k).
I'm sick of hearing excuses because Brand A is junk but Brand B will cure cancer.
I like holley myself, it's what I use, what I know very well. When I was DD'ing my camaro I got 21/13 mpg infront of a th-350/3.23's and I wasn't nice to it. I don't even have a choke but I have no problems firing it up first try on a cool michigan mornings.
Enough Q-jet and Edelbrock is crap just because you don't know how to tune them, I have SEEN edelbrock inducted vehicles(454 4x4 chevy 2500) TEAR stuff up.
To the OP, I don't care how many times something is rebuilt, if it is not rebuilt correctly it is going to come out crappy. Have somebody that KNOWS qjets rebuild it and then let THEM tune it, I guarantee you will be satisfied.
EDIT: If you have the patience not only let them tune it, let them TEACH YOU how to tune it, as Al Einstein said, there is NO knowledge that is not power!

Well, what have or haven't you tried changing. What is your "method" of tuning, wideband,02,1/4mi track, or the good old butt dyno.

i agree with what you said, and i'm not saying that edelbrock is junk. all i was saying is that its not working for my combo and as i already have a holley i'd see if that worked any better.
