I think I might buy this...

I was wanting to upgrade my "84 ,auto ,305 ,"maro and i found this on summit.

http://www.summitracing.com/parts/CMB-03-0158/?rtype=10

anyone bought this kit and if so what are your thoughts about it.

also pics installed would be a plus.

P.S. please don't start with the "drop that dog 305 for a 350. I just want a little more power from the stock motor without a lot of down time.

Re: I think I might buy this...

I know you told me not to, but I just must - not to "dog", but as an FYI..

I got a used 350, carb to pan complete - plug and play, for $600 locally on Craigslist. Spent $120 on an HEI distributor, another $80 on a fuel pressure regulator (I was going from TBI to carb) - so for the same $800 I had a 350.

$850 seems high to me for that, but I guess is does have a Holley which are much more expensive than an Edelbrock (and I know, someone's going to say Edelebrock sucks and Holley is well worth the extra).

But - FYI...

Edelbrock 1406 600cfm carb new at Pep Boys about $250
Edelbrock Performer RPM intake $150

That's $400. Cams I'm no expert on prices or good choices, and the rest in that kit is fluff - gaskets ($40), air cleaner ($30), carb studs ($5) - so that's $475 excluding a cam buying the parts yourself (IF you are not oppose to an Edelbrock, which is a fine carb for a simple street app) - that leaves over $350 for a cam choice - never seen a cam go for $350 ... so I think you'd save yourself a couple hundred by putting your own "kit" together.

Just my Good Luck with whatever you choose!

Re: I think I might buy this...

you also do not have to buy new eather. check ebay and craigs list for deals

i built the engine in my old '74 chevy k10 for cheap

vortec heads $40

summit stage 2 intake $100 (had to drill the center holes but ehh)

never used RV cam $60

thermo quad carb $30 (it was really cheap and works simialer to a Q-jet vary nice street carb)

low milage GM good wrench engine came out of a suburban $200

headers $40

total $470 (not including mic gaskets and what not)

thing was not fastest but it had enough power to move the 33" tires down the road no problem had a 700-R4 auto and 4.10 gears

That's a great, reasonably priced kit that will give that 305 a modest amount of power. I'd say go for it

Re: I think I might buy this...

Like I said i wanted thoughts on this kit. But I actually found a similar kit with a milder cam(maybe) for $550.

ALthough dropping in a 350 is an option. I know basicly nothing about V8 chevy's.. (mosly 240sx's with RBswaps) i have no idea where to start a 350 swap.
