Holley Carb, detent bracket & side linkage bracket help
Everything is holley. trying to sort out a trans issue and make sure the detent cable is set correctly. following the method from the manual and what everyone says and the cable is too short to be cliped on the side throttle bracket AND be reset with the tab pushed in (towards the back of the carb). I have an Advance detent cable on now, but was thinking about just getting the OEM GM one (82-87 305 carb'd cars). Any input, always appreciated!!
Thanks guys

This is a TH700R-4, right? So, we're talking about the throttle valve (TV) cable, not a "detent" cable, correct?
If so, you need a TV geometry corrector bracket for a Holley carb. Bolt that on, and see if your cable can be attached and adjusted after that.

Re: Holley Carb, detent bracket & side linkage bracket help
Yes, fresh rebuilt 700-R4 that came out of my '88 RS. Built to handle 420ish HP with a small bit of laughing gas. Sorry, i meant TV cable. For what ever reason i thought TV was used on the T-350 and T-400 (in conjunction with the vaccum modulator valve on the backside of the trans...) I already have the Holley version of the geometry correction bracket AND the bracket that goes on the side of the carb. BOTH brackets are Holley too! Thats was so frustraiting....

ok i have dealt with this forever. i have set it all the right ways. it never worked right. so what i did is this.
set it to the factory setting by pushing it all the way in and flooring it. then i went and drove it. it shifted hard. then i would pull the cable out at least 2 clicks at a time till it shifted soft as normal. maybe a little soft. then pushed it back in 2 clicks. that was the sweet spot.
