My plan to fuel carb...

this is my plan to fuel my carb.
car was a fuel injected v6 and is goin to be a carbed 350
i searched and couldnt find a clear answer

1. drop the rearend
2. pull out intank pump, cut out pump and fill in section with fuel line for pickup.
3. put back together
4. use this pump http://www.summitracing.com/parts.aspx?sku=SUM-G3136-1 can i hook up this pump to the wiring from the old in tank pump?
5. will i need a regulator? if so, will this work? http://www.summitracing.com/parts.aspx?sku=SUM-G3131-1

Thanks, Kohl

Re: My plan to fuel carb...

Why not just use your in-tank pump, and get a mallory bypass regulator, and call it a day?

Re: My plan to fuel carb...

You dont need to drop the rear to pull the tank...ive done it many times.
Theres a sticky on turning your FI pickup into a carb pickup
The pump is fine and yes you would be able to use the stock wiring (slightly modified of course) to power it. And since is 7 PSI max you dont need a regulator. More than likely you wont see that pump at more than 6 PSI.
If you do the carb pickup mod, you dont need any special fittings, although I would personally swap all the rubber lines over to braided stainless and AN fittings.
You will need to modify the fuel line where you attach the new pump anyway.
I would also strongly recommend plumbing in a nice fuel filter before the pump to keep it from sucking in crap.

Re: My plan to fuel carb...

No clue about that. Now the tank doesnt just drop out either, it takes some fanagling to get it out. I have yet to get one out without bending the filler neck down. They bend pretty easy and as long as its not riddled with rust it shouldnt break. Braided lines and fittings can get pricey, but SO worth it knowing its not gonna randomly let go one day like rubber can. You wont need much braided line since youre only replacing a small stretch and not the whole hard line (I hope).

To drop the tank youre gonna hafta pull the exhaust off, and the pan hard bar and other bar from the rear to get enough clearance.

Re: My plan to fuel carb...

Either one would be fine. And if it was me, Id take out the stock fuel filter and mount the pump somewhere in that location. I say that because the the hardline where the filter mounts already has threaded fittings so it would be easy to plumb in some braided line at that point for the new pump and the new filter.

Personally, I'd get a Walbro replacement in-tank pump and put a Mallory return reg in the engine compartment.

But, if you don't want to do that, get the bigger pump. 7 psi is fine with a Holley. Go ahead and get the reg you linked if you want.

The in-tank pump would be a lot quieter, though.
