hesitation issues
Ok,
car starts up and idles fine now, I took the carb apart and cleaned the whole thing, new gaskets all the way around.
The car will idle at 1000 rpms, I can even put it in gear, the rpms will drop down to like 600 and stay running, my issue is if i give it gas, it will bog terribly, then take off like a bat outta hell. same thing happens in park, if you rev.. it falls on its face.. then will rev up fine..
the weird thing is, when the car first starts before the choke opens all the way up, it revs fine, no hesitation at all.. but the rpms are also above 1000 too.. i dunno.. anyone got any ideas?

One thing I have ideas about is what kind of carb it might be, but I wouldn't take that to the bank. . .

Re: hesitation issues
Hi Hecter, Throttle tip-in enrichment is provideed by the accelerator pump. Did you by chance forget to install the check ball? Also check float level. Double check for any vacuum leaks. High idle when cold is normal (fast idle cam). Be sure you have the idle mixture set right. Good luck

Re: hesitation issues
Not necessarily bad, but it is your foundation to tune upon. You may need to put a timing tape on to see exactly where it is. Unhook vacuum can and see if it shows up. Are you using a dial back timing light?

Literally a piece of tape you wrap around the harmonic damper. Line up the 0* mark on the balancer and tape and stick it down. Clean the balancer real good first. You need to know the diameter of the balancer on your motor, either from a service manual or measure it yourself. Better to measure and know for sure.

This will let you map out your timing as that needs to be right before any carb tuning commences.

Re: hesitation issues
You should have no problem seeing the timing mark. What I did was find the mark on the balancer and ues either white out or some white touch up paint to high-lite the mark. Then set the timing as you would normal. Now if you rebuilt the carb did you turn the screw to the acc pump at all? If so you might have to re-set it to holley factory settings. You can see how to set it here:

Holley has a youtube channel and you can find a lot on info there.

Re: hesitation issues
Do some searching, you can probably even make a timing tape from masking tape or something to get you going....

Re: hesitation issues
update:
ok, so I havent got my timing figured out yet, but I did fix the hesitation issue. I bought a set of the accelerator pump cams.
after trying different sizes, I found one that helped, and after adjusting the acc pump spring, it runs soo much better.
still seems a little hesitant, Im thinking deff my timing.
