Emissions, runs better, knocking EFE Valve....
Emissions, runs better, knocking EFE Valve....
I'm not the best at describing things so if you are a short tempered person, you might want to take your pills and move on. lol.
So if your still here there let me begin.
Car:1986 Chevy Caprice 305 Vin H LG4 bought 3 weeks ago.
Things I have done:
New Cap & Rotor
New HEI wires with sparkplugs
New TVS Switch
New Vacuum lines and there were a bunch
Carb has been rebuilt, even new intake to carb gasket
New PVC
Things I have not done or things i noticed
Vapor Canister filter is gone. It not where it should be.
Things I have cleaned
EGR Valve and cleaned the intake holes too.
EFE Valve, was covered in grease but still held vacuum
Prob: EFE vacuum line has been pulled off by me to see if it is operable. It is working but when I plug the line back onto the nipple the engine changes. The changes are the idle drops some, it starts to sound like a misfire, and the EFE door inside sounds like someone is hitting it with a screw driver or something of the sort. It holds vacuum. I noticed that when engines running I would apply vacuum to the EFE and the engine would sound and run like crap. When I released the vacuum the motor would run better and smoother. I dont think that is the way its supposed to be. Am I wrong?
I also have the TVS bypassed. I have a piece of vacuum hose connecting the lines together. This makes the car run better. Again the TVS is new but when its hooked up like it should its stumbles, feels like a mis and sounds like it too.

Anytime you disconnect a vacuum line while an engine is running, it's idle is going to change - because you just created a vacuum leak. With all the vacuum lines plugged, or running where they should run - if the engine doesn't run as good, then chances are some tuning needs done.
Re: Emissions, runs better, knocking EFE Valve....
Yes that would make for a big vacuum leak. What I failed to mention is that when I disconnected the line to the EFE Valve it was when motor was off.
I also have a very big fuel odor like a monsterous leak but when i check there is no leak anywhere. This im thinking is vapor canister.
