Stock Qjet Question
Stock Qjet Question
i have a 86 camaro i just put a 350 in it, im thinking about switching the carburetor and maybe getting a Holley or a edelbrock one
my question is if i switch carbs what would happen to the plugs on the stock carburetor? would i have to jump them so i dont a cel ? or just leave them unplugged and tuck them away ? and what els would need to be done ? ive tryed looking this up and couldn't find any info
i dont want to have a check engine light on in the car but not to sure how to do it with the all the plugs on the stock carburetor any advice would be helpful

Re: Stock Qjet Question
You'll have to swap to a non-cc HEI distributor. You'll also have to get the correct TV cable geometry corrector for the linkage on whatever carb you choose if you have an auto trans. You'll also need a method for locking the torque converter since the ECM will no longer be functional (again auto trans).
In essence, you are disabling the ECM altogether - no computer. You cannot run a non-cc carb with a cc dist, etc. - you have to do it all or none.
Removal of the ECM will take care of the light, or you can remove the cluster and remove the light bulb.

i have a manual trans so basically just switch out the dist. and carb and i am set right ?
and as far as not having a check engine light on.... i would basically have to take out the bulb or the computer ?
last question would i pass emissions with out having the ecm on and with the whole check engine light on? i am in NJ by the way

Re: Stock Qjet Question
A better question is why do you want to remove the stock carb and system? As long as it's functioning properly you're not going to find another carb/dist that will provide better performance.

With a manual transmission you can make a case for a double pumper type carb, but not vacuum secondary or any Edelbrock carb.

That case gets kinda weak when you add in 'would I pass emissions'...
