Squealing Sound

It seems every time I accelerate hard with my '86 Trans Am, a loud squealing sound comes from under the hood I believe. And then it seems to lose power. But if I ease off, it's ok.

Could this be the carb? I know for a fact that it's junk and that I should get another one.

Most likely it's your fan/alternator belt making the noise.

Losing power could be a number of things, the carb is probably about 8 or 9 down the list. From your brief description, I'd put fuel pump and/or fuel filter #'s 1 & 2.

Re: Squealing Sound

I was just about to say the same thing. I've experianceed this same problem in multiple vehicles, and its always a belt.
