Fuel pump question

I was checking out my fuel pump in my 305 87 iroc, there are to lines for fuel to be pumped out of it. Well one of the lines is stopped with a rubber cap and the other runs up by the carb and is Yed off to first and secondraies.

Would car run better if i ran a second line to the carb? or does it not matter. I am also having problems with the secondary float getting fuel could this be causeing it?

I know i am a newbee but please help

Re: Fuel pump question

Stock there should be 3 fuel lines, 1 runs to the charcoal canister, 2 is a feed line to the carb, 3 is the return line back to the tank. Are you running a stock carb or aftermarket? Can you get us a pic of this?

Re: Fuel pump question

There's no line to the charcoal canister on a stock pump.

How is the rubber cap held on?

Re: Fuel pump question

Ok, the capped line is a little smaller than the one running to the carb?

Re: Fuel pump question

That's the return line to send excess fuel back to the tank. With that capped, the internal regulator in the pump can't function and you're getting full flow up to the carb and it's flooding.

Re: Fuel pump question

Maybe $5 of 1/4" fuel hose is too much for some people to spend. More likely it was removed under the misguided assumption that it was something to do with "emissions".
