TV Cable?

I want to do a swap from TPI to carb... I've been able to find all the info I need to make the swap. I was looking at my car tonight and I dont see the TV cable. I could be wrong... but one is the throttle cable and I think the other is the cruise. The car drives fine... and shifts ok, although it shifts hard but the guy I bought it from said he put a shiftkit in it. Please help me out... is it even possible to not have a tv cable? The car is an 85 Z28 that somewhere along the way had the engine swapped to a 87 or newer tpi 350 and 700r4.

The other cable is the TV (Detent) cable. Do you have cruise on your turn signal switch?

Re: TV Cable?

Yes I have cruise on the turn signal switch. It does not work though. I saw a bunch of pictures on here of other peoples tv cable and they all look different than mine. They have a long metal bracket on the end of the cable... and mine doesn't. That's why I thought something was fishy.

Re: TV Cable?

My TV cable looks a little different on the cable just behind the bracket for both cables. I haven't seen a cruise set-up on one yet. When I bought mine from a very close friend and original owner, I asked him why he didn't get cruise on it, he said real hot-rods don't have cruise!

Re: TV Cable?

YOUR TV cable is the one on the top in that pic (on the top of the linkage, not the bracket). In your pic, you are showing the TV cable and the throttle cable.

As I have read, you'll have to change your TV cable out for one from a TBI or a carbed car - something about the length on the TPI cables.

The 700 R4 won't shift right with out the TV cable. From your picture the motor looks stock. Mine has shifted hard from first to second since it was new. After it warms up it's not quite as hard but firm.

Re: TV Cable?

Thanks for the help guys. I didn't even know what a tv cable was until about 2 days ago. How hard would that be to change to one for a carbed engine?

Re: TV Cable?

On the other end, the cable goes into the top of the tranny on the pass side - there's a hook and a loop that connect (I just don't remember if the hook is on the cable or if it's in the tranny). There is one screw that holds it to the top of the tranny - it's an easy swap.

Camaronewbie, you have the TV-easy link? I'm on a new PC, lost all my short-cuts.

Not a problem, took me awhile to find it. One of the other members showed it to me. "Knowledge is Power"
